Our Simplified Process
For Fortville Elementary School
01 Challenge
The Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation (MVCSC) has experienced rapid enrollment growth, placing increasing pressure on its existing facilities. Classrooms were nearing capacity, and infrastructure limitations threatened to impact the quality of education and student experience. Without strategic expansion, the district risked overcrowding and diminished learning environments across its campuses.
02 Solution
To proactively address these challenges, MVCSC launched an ambitious Future Growth Plan supported by an $84 million investment. Central to this plan is the construction of a new Fortville Elementary School, designed to accommodate the district’s expanding student population. Groundbreaking for the new school took place in November 2022, with the facility set to open for the 2025–2026 academic year. The new elementary school is being designed by RATIO and constructed by Hunt Construction under a Construction Manager as Advisor (CMa) delivery method, with Veridus Advisors serving as the Owner’s Technical Representative. In addition to the new school, the plan includes a 60,000-square-foot expansion and renovation of existing facilities and the development of a new transportation center on newly acquired land northeast of the campus.
03 Results
The new Fortville Elementary School will provide a modern, purpose-built learning environment that supports both current and future students. Its opening will allow the existing Fortville Elementary building to be repurposed as an intermediate school for grades 5 and 6, effectively increasing capacity and improving grade-level alignment across the district. The successful completion of the Transportation Center in March 2024 and the introduction of new infrastructure to improve campus accessibility further demonstrate MVCSC’s commitment to long-term growth and operational efficiency. Together, these projects will ensure that MVCSC remains well-equipped to deliver high-quality education in a rapidly growing community.
