01 Challenge
In late 2022, Okemos Public Schools faced the monumental task of executing a $275 million bond program to address critical infrastructure, security, and overcrowding issues across its district. With eight existing schools and several other facilities requiring significant construction, renovation, and modernization, the district needed a strategic partner to guide this ambitious initiative in Okemos, Michigan.
02 Solution
Okemos Public Schools selected Veridus Advisors as their Owner’s Representative to lead the bond program using the Construction Manager as Constructor (CMc) delivery method. Christman Co. began construction in June 2023. The comprehensive program involves building, renovating, and equipping critical facilities, including:
- Edgewood Early Childhood Center
- Bennett Woods Elementary
- Cornell Elementary
- Okemos Public Montessori at Central
- Hiawatha Elementary
- Kinawa 5-6 Middle School
- Chippewa 7-8 Middle School
- Okemos High School
- District Administration, Operations & Technology Building
- Wardcliff
- Athletics
Thus far, Veridus Advisors has spearheaded cost-saving measures that reinvested nearly $4,000,000 back into the bond program.
03 Results
The program has already delivered key milestones, with construction completed for the Edgewood Early Childhood Center, Bennett Woods Elementary, Okemos Public Montessori at Central, and Athletics facilities. The remaining projects, are scheduled for completion by Fall 2030, encompassing 600,000 square feet of modernized and purpose-built educational spaces.
